About the role:

As a Category Officer, you will work collaboratively with stakeholders to manage supply performance across low to medium value and complexity sub‑categories. You’ll support the development and delivery of category management plans, undertake detailed spend and market analysis, and help drive improved commercial outcomes for SA Water.

You will also play a key role in sourcing activities, supplier relationship management, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures. This is a great opportunity to grow your procurement capability while contributing to meaningful business outcomes.

Your responsibilities for this opportunity

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Contribute to team goals by completing allocated tasks to a high standard and supporting broader Supply Chain initiatives.
  • Support the development of category management plans, including market analysis, risk identification, benchmarking and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead delivery of specific elements of category action plans and manage defined areas of spend.
  • Conduct sourcing and contract extension processes, ensuring strong commercial outcomes and compliance with procurement requirements.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, providing expert advice on procurement and supply chain matters.
  • Deliver insights through spend analysis, benchmarking and reporting to support category decision‑making.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Demonstrated procurement and contracting experience with strong negotiation and supplier management capability.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship‑building, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Procurement, Law, Commercial or similar (or MCIPS) are desirable but not essential.
