About the job

An exciting opportunity is available for an Economic Regulation Specialist, where you will be instrumental in analysing, developing, and implementing our regulatory business planning submissions. In this pivotal role, you will advise our business, collaborate with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and internal teams, and ensure that our regulatory proposals are transparent, to the highest standard, and incorporate customer insights, demonstrate prudent and efficient economic investment, and adhere to industry best practices.

This position is essential to our regulated operations, helping us meet our commitments to our regulator, ESCOSA, and deliver results that uphold the interests of both SA Water and our customers.

About the Person

We are seeking a candidate who thrives on high-level strategic and commercial analysis, providing advice and possesses strong verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in economics, financial analysis, or large and complex policy and strategy proposals, preferably within large commercial settings or comparable sectors, and be skilled in economic analysis and business case evaluation. Adaptability is key, as the role requires a versatile approach, shifting seamlessly from detailed analysis and drafting, to preparing board presentations, to working alongside colleagues and industry partners. Flexibility, the ability to think laterally, and a strong capacity for interpreting complex information are also vital. We encourage those with a background in economics and/or finance to apply for this dynamic position.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Assist in coordinating and developing SA Water’s regulatory proposal, ensuring there are robust business cases to support SA Water’s objectives.
  • Communicate with and educate the business on the regulatory revenue model and impacts of the regulatory proposal.
  • Provide technical policy and regulatory advice to decision makers.
  • Write SLT/Board reports, and responses to ESCOSA, on regulatory matters as required.
  • Work with ESCOSA and DTF as required to influence the economic regulatory framework.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, business, commerce, law or a related discipline or equivalent.
  • Experience with problem solving and decision analysis.
  • Ability to quickly build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and commercial skills.
  • Experience in planning and helping deliver large projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in working in a regulatory environment and regulatory requirements.
