About the job  

As the Laboratory Project Manager at SA Water, you will lead key laboratory projects from start to finish, ensuring they meet objectives related to time, cost, quality, and business efficiency. You will manage initiatives such as system upgrades (including Laboratory Information Management Systems), process optimisation, and strategic initiatives aimed at improving laboratory performance.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with internal teams, scientific suppliers, and contractors to coordinate resources, manage budgets, and keep projects on schedule, all while ensuring compliance with quality standards (ISO17025 & ISO9001). A key part of your responsibilities will be driving continuous improvement, from project initiation through to transitioning into business operations. Success in this role will depend on strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to navigate complex systems to help shape the laboratory's future.

The Science and Strategy group employs scientific approaches to address present and upcoming challenges. They execute a strategy driven by customer preferences to elevate the SA Water brand and position us for future success.

In addition, your responsibilities will include: 

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. 

You will: 

  • Leading the implementation and delivery of laboratory projects in line with corporate project management methodology.
  • Coordinating resources, budgets, and timelines to ensure efficient and on-time project delivery.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure projects align with business goals and customer needs.
  • Monitoring project performance using key performance indicators to ensure desired outcomes are met.
  • Upholding and driving compliance with health, safety, and quality standards, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Supporting business planning and goal-setting functions for the laboratory team

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Proven experience leading projects in a scientific or technical environment.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in frameworks like PMBOK or Prince2 (desirable).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, with a focus on customer satisfaction and business value.
  • A collaborative approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • The ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving projects forward through influence and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
