About the job

As a Technical Cadet based in Mount Barker, you will learn to provide technical advisory services for water, wastewater, recycled water, and fire services across the outer metro region. You’ll assist with surveying, drafting, and estimating for water infrastructure projects. This role isn’t confined to a workshop all day, it offers a mix of office-based work and travel, covering locations from Victor Harbor to Murray Bridge, including the Barossa Valley, Gawler River regions, and the Adelaide metropolitan and Hills areas. Teamwork is essential in this role, as you will need to collaborate with other team members, participate in team briefings, and work towards team objectives. Additionally, you will be required to complete online training sessions, complete study modules and achieve the required qualifications within the specified timeframe. This is a 4-year maximum term position, offering a unique opportunity to kickstart your career at SA Water.

About the Person

The ideal candidate for this position will have the right attitude, show ambition to progress into a Technical Officer role, and actively take responsibility for their own learning through independent study. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a quick learner, and show strong attention to detail. A high level of problem-solving ability and sound mathematical knowledge are also essential for success in this learning-focused role.

In addition, your areas of focus will be: 

  • Learning to effectively use electronic design tools to create accurate and detailed technical drawings and designs.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of project documentation, such as technical drawings, as-built drawings, and budget estimates.
  • Attending all scheduled training to build and maintain technical competency.
  • Ensuring all services delivered are compliant with relevant Australian standards, legislation, and internal policies.
  • Meeting the competency requirements and standards set by the off-the-job training program at the registered training organization.
  • Building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Completion of Year 12 SACE
  • Ability to work autonomously towards a Diploma of Engineering – Technical with TAFE Queensland
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Positive attitude, and willingness to work within a team environment
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar (desirable)
  • White Card (Desirable)

As this is a study while you learn opportunity the first-year salary per annum is $64,207.89 and goes up each year. An excellent opportunity for an individual looking for a STEM based Career.
