About the job  

As a Commissioning Lead, you will head and coordinate commissioning activities throughout project delivery, working closely with project teams, contractors, operational stakeholders, and subject matter experts.

You will provide technical leadership and oversight to ensure assets are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, regulatory obligations, and operational standards.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to some of SA Water's most complex and strategically important infrastructure programs while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

About you

You are an experienced commissioning, construction or engineering professional who thrives in complex project environments. You have strong technical capability particularly the understanding of water/wastewater networks, sound judgement, and the ability to build productive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.

You will: 

• Lead and coordinate commissioning activities across major water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure projects, ensuring successful delivery from planning through to operational handover.
• Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and performance management protocols that drive operational outcomes and asset performance.
• Ensure all commissioning activities comply with safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with contractors, project teams, and operational stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant infrastructure outcomes.
• Provide technical expertise and leadership to resolve complex commissioning challenges and support informed decision-making.
• Identify project risks and opportunities early, implementing effective mitigation strategies and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare and communicate commissioning outcomes, ensuring commissioned assets meet functional, quality, and customer service expectations.

Your success in this role will come from: 

• A degree in Engineering or equivalent industry experience in commissioning, construction, or infrastructure project delivery.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality assurance requirements within construction and commissioning environments.
• Technical expertise in water, wastewater, and recycled water systems, including treatment, disinfection, distribution, and associated infrastructure assets.
• Proven stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with contractors, suppliers, regulators, and internal teams.
• Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Sound problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, particularly when managing complex issues during construction and commissioning activities.
• Experience in commissioning and project delivery, including quality assurance, scheduling, program reviews, and the use of reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI and project scheduling software.
