About the job  

We are seeking a Data Discovery Specialist to lead enterprise-wide data discovery and governance at SA Water. In this pivotal role, you will translate strategic business objectives into robust data asset frameworks and metadata standards, ensuring our data is accurate, accessible, and trusted across the organisation. You will set the vision for metadata management, champion innovative platforms such as Collibra, and mentor stakeholders to build data literacy and stewardship capability, enabling smarter decision-making and long-term business success.

You are a strategic thinker with hands-on expertise in data governance and metadata management, able to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. With strong communication and facilitation skills, you thrive in collaborative environments and can influence adoption across multiple domains. Your ability to translate business needs into data capabilities, combined with practical experience in platforms like Collibra, will ensure you deliver measurable improvements in data quality, accessibility, and governance.

In this role, your responsibilities will include: 

  • Driving enterprise-wide improvements in data quality, accessibility, and governance.
  • Leading the vision and strategy for metadata management and enterprise data catalog ownership.
  • Configuring and optimising Collibra to support business-friendly data discovery and workflows.
  • Partnering with business leaders, ICT, risk/compliance, and solution architects to align data discovery initiatives with enterprise priorities.
  • Facilitating workshops, coaching, and mentoring to help business teams identify and document their critical data assets and relationships.
  • Promoting a culture of data literacy, stewardship, and self-service analytics across SA Water.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Proven knowledge and experience in data governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM) and metadata management.
  • Hands-on experience with Collibra (or equivalent platform), including configuration, catalog curation, and workflow management.
  • Ability to translate business capabilities and outcomes into data assets and metadata requirements.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching skills to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong balance of strategic thinking with hands-on execution to drive adoption across domains.
  • Knowledge of data modelling concepts (desirable)
  • A degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
