About the role

SA Water is seeking an Energy Compliance Specialist to lead the development, implementation, and coordination of our energy compliance framework. In this crucial role, you will ensure that SA Water meets all its energy compliance obligations, both regulatory and legislative, while also contributing to the efficiency and sustainability of our operations. As the Energy Compliance Specialist, you will work closely with various internal and external stakeholders to monitor and manage energy compliance, ensuring that SA Water adheres to the highest standards of regulatory practices in the National Electricity and Gas Markets.

You will be a subject matter expert, working proactively to develop compliance guidelines, monitor risks, and ensure the timely reporting of energy performance to regulators and other stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional looking to contribute to a forward-thinking, customer-centric organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and management of SA Water’s energy compliance framework and documentation.
  • Monitor, audit, review, and report on energy legislative and regulatory compliance obligations, translating them into actionable compliance guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across SA Water to address energy compliance issues and ensure all compliance obligations are met.
  • Provide energy compliance training for internal stakeholders and act as a reference point for energy industry knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in energy management systems and processes, ensuring effective identification and management of energy risks.
  • Maintain relationships with industry bodies, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to keep abreast of industry developments and foster positive communication and compliance.
  • Provide timely and accurate energy compliance reports to regulators, customers, and internal stakeholders.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of energy legislation, regulations, codes, and compliance within the energy and utilities sector.
  • Proven experience in risk management and compliance systems in energy, including managing compliance registers, auditing, and compliance programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, such as regulators and other industry bodies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and under pressure, managing changing priorities with minimal direction.
  • Understanding of electricity and gas markets and a history of energy compliance reporting and managing regulatory relationships.
  • A solutions-oriented approach, able to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, actionable strategies for compliance.
