About the Job

The Maintenance Trade Technician plays a vital role in keeping SA Water’s infrastructure running smoothly and safely by delivering high-quality maintenance and repair services. With a strong foundation in trade-based skills, this role focuses on both planned and reactive maintenance capital works, and improvement projects. From diagnosing audits to implementing technical solutions, the Maintenance Trade Technician ensures reliable performance of critical plant, equipment and systems – making a direct impact on operational efficiency and service delivery. Participation in an on-call roster will be part of this position.

About Operations and Maintenance 

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

About the Person

The ideal candidate is a skilled and safety-conscious tradesperson with strong technical expertise in maintenance and repairs. They are proactive, reliable and take pride in delivering high-quality work. With experience in both planned and reactive maintenance, they can diagnose issues quickly, work efficiently within set timeframes and communicate clearly. They’re a strong team player and have a commitment to continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities for this opportunity 

  • Execute internal and external maintenance programs in line with planning and scheduling to optimise equipment uptime, improve efficiency, avoid rework, and to enhance reliability and availability of infrastructure.
  • Participate in and provide subject matter expertise in Safety in Design (SiD) and HAZOP studies.
  • Liaise with maintenance delivery coordinators and supervisors to provide updates on schedules, cost estimates, and any scope variations in accordance with the regional capital delivery framework.
  • Display work management discipline, to capture and report all required maintenance data accurately and promptly in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for trade-related apprentices.
  • Ensure infrastructure is safely maintained to a high-quality standard in accordance with reliability and maintenance practices.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Meet all the relevant metal classification criteria for Maintenance Trade (Electrical, Mechanical or Fabrication).
  • Relevant Trade Certificate and License (Electrical only)
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and in a team environment.
  • Understanding of work health and safety and the ability to manage safety and risk.
  • Ability to analyse technical operational problems and recommend appropriate solutions while working under limited supervision.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and competent with computer and software applications.
  • Demonstrate skill, awareness and knowledge on water quality, wastewater, and environmental procedures.
  • Experience running and/or managing small projects.
