About the job

This role delivers planned and unplanned maintenance, as well as capital projects, on SA Water assets across the Berri workshop area (Riverland and Murray Lands). It is essential for maintaining and improving infrastructure to meet targets for availability, performance, cost, and risk, ensuring reliable customer services. The position applies trade‑based skills to assist with the installation, repair, maintenance, testing, modification, commissioning, and fault‑finding of plant, equipment, and materials.

About the Person

Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic mechanical tradesperson with expertise in maintenance, repairs, and infrastructure upgrades. They are proactive in ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency in their work while adhering to industry standards and best practices. With strong problem-solving abilities, they can analyse technical issues and implement effective solutions, working independently or collaboratively within a team.

They demonstrate a solid understanding of workplace health and safety, environmental considerations, and water quality procedures. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with proficiency in using computer-based maintenance management systems. Experience in managing small projects and mentoring apprentices is advantageous.

This role requires adaptability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work in varied environments, including remote locations, intrastate overnight travel, flexible hours, and on-call duties.

About Operations and Maintenance 

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Ensure infrastructure is safely maintained to a high-quality standard in accordance with reliability and maintenance practices.
  • Execute internal and external maintenance programs in line with planning and scheduling to optimise equipment uptime, improve efficiency, avoid rework, and to enhance reliability and availability of infrastructure.
  • Liaise with Project Managers and Supervisors to provide updates on schedules, cost estimates, and any scope variations to capital project delivery in accordance with the regional capital delivery framework.
  • Collaborate effectively to ensure team goals are achieved by providing input into decision making and problem solving.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Meeting all the relevant metal classification criteria for Maintenance Trade Mechanical).
  • Relevant Trade Certificate and License (Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical)
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and in a team environment.
  • Understanding of work health and safety and the ability to manage safety and risk.
  • Ability to analyse technical operational problems and recommend appropriate solutions while working under limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated skill, awareness and knowledge of water quality, wastewater, and environmental procedures.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license. (Essential)
