About SA Water

SA Water is a modern, commercially focused water utility wholly owned by the Government of South Australia. We employ more than 1,700 people and operate over $14 billion of water and wastewater infrastructure that supports more than 1.8 million customers.

Our operations span some of the most geographically and climatically diverse regions in Australia, from Ceduna to the Far North and APY Lands, across the Riverland and down to the South East. For more than 165 years, we’ve been trusted to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable water services that support regional communities and the state’s economy.

We combine strong public‑sector purpose with contemporary delivery practices, nationally recognised technical expertise, and a long‑term capital investment program shaping critical water infrastructure for the future.

At SA Water, our values guide how we work every day. We value our people, deliver work that matters, stay practical and honest, understand the impact of what we do, and remain future‑focused in everything we deliver.

About the Role

As a Regional Project Manager, you will be accountable for the end‑to‑end delivery of water and wastewater capital projects across regional South Australia. Operating within the Portfolio Delivery Group, you will manage multiple concurrent projects through planning, design, construction and commissioning—often within live operational environments.

You will work as part of a supportive, highly experienced delivery team, drawing on established systems, technical specialists, and organisational knowledge to enable successful outcomes. Working closely with SA Water Workshops, internal stakeholders and external contractors, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with agreed scope, time, cost and quality outcomes.

This role plays a critical part in delivering SA Water’s capital investment program while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and a strong focus on customer outcomes and service reliability for regional communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead safety performance across all projects by promoting WHS leadership, undertaking site safety walks, applying Safety in Design principles, and reinforcing a strong safety culture.
  • Deliver projects to agreed outcomes by managing scope, cost, schedule, risk and resources to achieve agreed briefs, KPIs and customer outcomes.
  • Provide clear leadership within a team environment, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary internal teams, contractors and delivery partners to achieve shared objectives.
  • Manage financial performance, including cost control, forecasting, cash flow, and reporting of project progress and outturn costs.
  • Actively manage risk and change, identifying issues early, maintaining contingencies, and supporting informed, timely decision‑making.
  • Ensure quality outcomes, delivering assets that meet technical standards, specifications and operational requirements, and are fit for purpose in service.

About You

You are a driven and motivated project manager who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment and takes pride in delivering outcomes that matter to customers and communities. You are comfortable taking ownership of your projects while leveraging the support, expertise and knowledge available across the organisation.

You bring:

  • Proven experience delivering capital projects or programs, with accountability for cost, schedule, risk and change.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent significant industry experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and implement practical, value‑focused solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
  • A customer‑centric, outcome‑driven mindset, focused on achieving practical delivery outcomes rather than process alone.
  • The ability to manage multiple workstreams, work autonomously when required, and contribute positively to a high‑performing team.
  • Confidence operating with responsibility while navigating ambiguity and balancing governance with delivery priorities.

Why Join SA Water

You will be supported by a well‑established delivery function with deep technical knowledge, experienced peers, and clear governance structures, allowing you to focus on what you do best—delivering high‑quality infrastructure outcomes.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to essential services for regional communities while working within a stable, long‑term capital program, supported by a collaborative team culture that values safety, accountability and customer outcomes.
