About the Company

SA Water is a successful, modern water utility wholly owned by the Government of South Australia. We employ more than 1,700 people across a broad range of disciplines who operate more than $14 billion worth of infrastructure to deliver essential water and sewerage services to more than 1.8 million South Australians.

We operate in a geographically and climatically diverse service area, with sites and locations from Ceduna through to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, across to the Riverland, down to Mount Gambier, and most places in between.

Our strength and expertise have been shaped by our history. For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

As well as safely delivering smart and reliable services for our customers of today, we innovate to shape the water solutions of the future that will support thriving economies and healthy communities.

We are driven by our values; we value our people, we do work that matters, we keep it real, we know that our work has impact, and we are future focussed. Staying true to our values ensures that we consistently deliver positive outcomes for all South Australians.

About the job

This role plays a key part in connecting SA Water’s R&D and Innovation activities with real world operational deployment. You’ll identify, plan, direct and evaluate the transfer of new technologies that help SA Water deliver customer value and meet its strategic priorities in a changing environment.

Working closely with researchers, innovators, operational teams and industry partners, you’ll help turn emerging technologies into practical, scalable solutions. As this is an evolving function, you’ll also help shape the processes, systems and frameworks that support technology transfer across the business —ideal for someone who is comfortable navigating ambiguity and enjoys building structure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify and assess opportunities to transfer new technologies into SA Water operations.
  • Maintain a register of technology transfer opportunities and support early adoption planning.
  • Scope, design and coordinate proof‑of‑concept and pilot trials, including objectives, methodologies, risk planning and resource needs.
  • Oversee trial delivery, ensuring approvals, procurement, timelines, budgets and risks are well managed.
  • Act as the key link between researchers, technology providers, project teams and business sponsors to ensure knowledge is effectively transferred.
  • Assess emerging technologies from external providers and engage with industry networks, including WSAA, to identify opportunities relevant to SA Water.
  • Analyse trial outcomes and support business units to implement recommendations and adoption plans.
  • Track and record outcomes of technology transfer activities.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Demonstrated ability to build, maintain and improve strong working relationships internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence a variety of stakeholders through strong communication skills.
  • Tertiary qualification in science, engineering or a relevant discipline, or significant demonstrated experience.
  • Practical experience applying scientific or engineering principles in operational environments.
  • Knowledge of research, design and innovation practices and processes, including proof‑of‑concept trials and change management methodologies.
  • Project management qualifications and/or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of the water industry, associated processes, challenges and directions is desirable
