About the job  

This pivotal role will drive performance, collaboration, and innovation across engineering functions, ensuring the successful delivery of our capital works program and supporting our transition to Sustainable Engineering.

About the Person

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and strategic vision. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team by recruiting, mentoring, and retaining talented engineering professionals. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture that supports safety, performance, and professional growth.
  • Role model safety leadership and ensure compliance with SA Water’s safety and wellbeing standards. Promote sustainable design practices and actively contribute to industry-leading WHS performance.
  • Collaborate with Capital Delivery to define and implement effective strategies for engineering design and project execution. Continuously improve delivery processes to ensure value-for-money outcomes.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure engineering outputs meet customer expectations and system requirements. Lead coordination efforts to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions across the capital program.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance engineering delivery, team capability, and service excellence. Encourage innovation and knowledge sharing across the Engineering function.
  • Develop professional growth plans for team members, manage resources effectively, and contribute to succession planning. Build strong relationships across Engineering to promote collaboration and consistency in delivery.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Professional engineering qualification (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering) or tertiary qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Proven ability to effectively liaise and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across diverse teams.
  • Strong experience in design management within engineering or infrastructure environments, including coordination of complex engineering programs.
  • Skilled in preparing professional reports and technical documentation to support decision-making and project delivery.
  • Relevant equivalent experience in project coordination or engineering delivery within a capital works context.
  • A Diploma or postgraduate qualification in Project Management, Business Management, or a related field is desirable.
