About the job  

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on individual to join our Operations & Maintenance team at Lake Victoria. This full-time position is being offered as a 2-year maximum-term contract, with the potential to be extended.

You will be part of a tight-knit team that lives and works at the Lake Victoria Storage facility, a remote but vibrant community in south-west NSW. Located approximately 65 km west of Wentworth and 100 km north-east of Renmark, Lake Victoria is an operational water storage and environmentally and culturally important site.

The successful candidate will be provided with private, self-contained onsite accommodation and will participate in a 9-day fortnight roster. Some weekend work (3-hour shifts) is required on a rotating basis.

About the Person

You are a practical all-rounder with a can-do attitude and an interest in land, water, and environmental management. With a background in civil construction, land management or general maintenance, you are a competent and responsible operator who takes pride in the care and upkeep of equipment. Skilled in the use of small machinery, power and hand tools, you are also diligent when it comes to working safely and following procedures. Adaptable and reliable, you enjoy working outdoors, whether that’s alongside a team or independently, and you’re always open to learning and developing new skills.

About Operations and Maintenance 

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include: 

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. 

You will: 

  • Operate and maintain assets across Lake Victoria, Frenchman’s Creek, Rufus River and surrounding infrastructure.
  • Contribute to civil construction, lock operations, and cultural/environmental works.
  • Participate in machine operations, general maintenance, and land management.
  • Monitor environmental and infrastructure conditions and provide accurate reports.
  • Support river and lake operations in line with directions from the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA).
  • Assist with major projects and routine activities while maintaining high safety standards.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  •  Any suitable trade qualifications will be highly desirable.
  • White card is required.
  • Previous experience using powered tools and plant equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence (plus HR or HC truck licence highly desirable).
  • Additional tickets will be highly desirable (e.g. Earthmoving, chemcert, NSW traffic management).
  • Pre-Employment medical, Police Check, Traffic Check, Right to Work in Australia Check and Reference Checks will be required as part of the recruitment process if you are successful in moving through the process.

The Perks

  • Pay rate depending on experience is in the rage of $60,981.16 to $65,505.27 per annum plus allowances.
  • Location allowance of $6,148 per annum.
  • Field allowance of $3,130 per annum.
  • Rostered overtime 6 hours a month plus potential for more based on business needs.
  • Onsite pool facility for out of hours use.
  • Lock 7 and the beautiful Murray River is only 4kms down the road.
  • 9-day fortnight.
  • Typical workday is from 7:00am to 4pm.
  • 4 weeks annual leave a year plus 1 travel day.
  • 2 days wellbeing leave a year.
  • For the 2 years a self-contained unit is provided.
