About the role  

As the Customer Data Specialist, you will play an important role in supporting and enhancing customer data and AI governance across the organisation. You will manage customer data quality, maintain and improve governance guidelines, procedures, and tools to ensure data is handled ethically, securely, and effectively.

By providing expert advice and collaborating with stakeholders, you will empower staff to make confident, data-driven decisions and support the responsible use of AI. You will also support the development and optimisation of reports and dashboards using Power BI and SQL, lead compliance monitoring, oversee metadata management, and promote best practices to keep customer data accurate, accessible, and valuable for business outcomes.

About you

You are a passionate data professional experienced in data governance, with a strong understanding of how people, processes, and technology come together to deliver successful analytics outcomes. You excel at gathering and translating both business and technical requirements, ensuring alignment between stakeholder needs and technical solutions. With excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, you enable collaboration across technical and non-technical teams. You are confident providing advice, driving data quality improvements, and embedding best-practice governance.

About Customer, Community and Engagement

The Customer, Community and Engagement group drives customer outcomes by delivering exceptional experiences and tailored solutions that grow business, revenue, and the state economy, while actively engaging with communities, and collecting valuable feedback.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Maintain and continuously improve customer data and AI governance principles, guidelines, and processes.
  • Manage and improve customer data quality to ensure accuracy and reliability across systems.
  • Provide advice, support, and training to stakeholders to ensure effective application of data governance practices.
  • Identify and resolve customer data and AI governance issues through root cause analysis and practical solutions.
  • Monitor compliance and performance using measurement tools and report regularly to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage customer metadata including ingestion, data lineage, quality rules, and resolution of data issues.
  • Support the trial, piloting, and operationalisation of new data technologies that enhance governance capabilities.
  • Assist in gathering business and technical requirements and support the development and delivery of customer data products.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimise reports and dashboards using Power BI and SQL to support business decision-making.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships across the organisation to promote best practices and maximise the value of data governance.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Data Governance, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Experience in technical and business requirements gathering.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Solid understanding of how people, processes, and technology enable data success.
  • Experience with Power BI and SQL for data reporting and analysis.
  • Experience in data or AI governance within technology projects (desirable).
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to improving data quality and trust
