About the Company

SA Water is a successful, modern water utility wholly owned by the Government of South Australia. We employ more than 1,700 people across a broad range of disciplines who operate more than $14 billion worth of infrastructure to deliver essential water and sewerage services to more than 1.8 million South Australians.

We operate in a geographically and climatically diverse service area, with sites and locations from Ceduna through to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, across to the Riverland, down to Mount Gambier, and most places in between.

Our strength and expertise have been shaped by our history. For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

As well as safely delivering smart and reliable services for our customers of today, we innovate to shape the water solutions of the future that will support thriving economies and healthy communities.

We are driven by our values; we value our people, we do work that matters, we keep it real, we know that our work has impact and we are future focussed. Staying true to our values ensures that we consistently deliver positive outcomes for all South Australians.

About the role

We are seeking a confident, strategic and experienced finance leader to oversee the financial planning, budgeting, reporting and commercial performance of our Sustainable Infrastructure business group. This is a high-impact leadership role that partners closely with senior leaders across SA Water to drive strong financial outcomes, support effective investment decisions and ensure robust financial governance for a diverse, asset-intensive portfolio.

You will lead a capable team responsible for delivering high-quality financial analysis, long-term planning, cost management, regulatory requirements and performance insights that directly inform strategic decision-making and support successful project delivery. As a key member of the finance leadership team, you will provide expert commercial advice, strengthen financial frameworks, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our infrastructure program.

This role is central to shaping the financial success of our Sustainable Infrastructure function and plays a critical part in delivering projects that create lasting value for our customers, communities and South Australia.

About the Person

You are an accomplished finance leader with deep experience in financial planning, budgeting, analysis and business partnering, ideally gained within an infrastructure, capital delivery or asset-intensive environment. You bring strong commercial judgement, excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach that helps senior leaders understand financial impacts and make confident decisions. You enjoy leading and developing people, creating clarity, and building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Your ability to interpret complex financial information, manage competing priorities, influence outcomes and maintain high standards of governance sets you apart.

About Business Insights and Excellence

The Business Insights and Excellence group drives operational excellence by enabling best business practices, economic pricing, supply chain management, and performance optimisation to support the broader business and partners in delivering reliable, cost-effective, sustainable, and future-focused outcomes.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior managers to deliver insightful financial advice and ensure compliance with governance processes, including corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the financial planning and budgeting process for the Sustainable Infrastructure group, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and efficient use of resources. Drive accountability for budget delivery and business efficiency.
  • Deliver accurate and insightful financial reporting, providing executive management with the data needed to make informed decisions and mitigate risks. Lead forecasting and scenario analysis to ensure timely and reliable reporting.
  • Drive cost management strategies, optimise financial systems (including CAPS and Insights), and promote SA Water’s digital strategy to streamline processes and improve operational performance.
  • Lead external reporting processes, including ESCOSA determinations and parliamentary briefing notes, ensuring that financial data is accurate, consistent, and aligned with external and internal requirements.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • A tertiary qualification in Economics, Commerce, or Accounting is essential, along with formal accounting qualifications (CA or CPA).
  • Significant experience in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and analysis, with a proven track record in problem-solving and leadership. Previous experience in a business partnering role is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with demonstrated experience in coaching and developing teams to drive results and ensure a high-performance culture.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and provide “value-add” financial insights across the organisation.
  • Experience in financial management for infrastructure and program delivery is advantageous.
