About the Company

SA Water is a successful, modern water utility wholly owned by the Government of South Australia. We employ more than 1,700 people across a broad range of disciplines who operate more than $14 billion worth of infrastructure to deliver essential water and sewerage services to more than 1.8 million South Australians.

We operate in a geographically and climatically diverse service area, with sites and locations from Ceduna through to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, across to the Riverland, down to Mount Gambier, and most places in between.

Our strength and expertise have been shaped by our history. For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

As well as safely delivering smart and reliable services for our customers of today, we innovate to shape the water solutions of the future that will support thriving economies and healthy communities.

We are driven by our values; we value our people, we do work that matters, we keep it real, we know that our work has impact, and we are future focussed. Staying true to our values ensures that we consistently deliver positive outcomes for all South Australians.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Manager, Data and AI Governance to lead the evolution and enterprise-wide embedding of our Data and AI Governance Framework. In this pivotal role, you will drive the safe, trusted and accountable use of data and AI across the business, ensuring our information assets fuel confident, data-informed decisions and deliver real business value.

Our data underpins the delivery of essential services to South Australians, from drinking water quality to infrastructure planning and customer experience. Your role will be critical in ensuring this data, and the AI built on top of it, is well governed, well understood, and used responsibly to support SA Water’s ambition to become an intelligent utility.

You’ll lead a small, high-impact team and work closely with stakeholders across all levels and business units. With a focus on enablement and collaboration, you’ll embed governance into everyday operations, not as red tape, but as a key enabler of insight, innovation and accountability.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Embedding SA Water’s enterprise-wide Data and AI Governance Framework, including policies, roles, and standards that support safe and ethical use of data and AI
  • Leading and coaching a team of specialists to uplift maturity and champion adoption across business units
  • Supporting data cataloguing, data quality management and AI register implementation to build trust in our information assets
  • Partnering across the enterprise to align governance with regulatory obligations, business needs, and strategic priorities

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience in Data and AI Governance.
  • A solid understanding of data management principles, such as DAMA DMBoK.
  • Proven experience in leading data and AI governance programs within large, complex organisations.
  • Leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing capabilities.
  • A strategic mindset with a detail-oriented, analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong project management capabilities, including overseeing governance-related projects and aligning them with business objectives.
  • Experience with Calibra, Azure, and PowerBI is desirable.
