About the job

As a Project Cost Controller, you will be at the forefront of managing project financials, working closely with project and program managers to set up projects within our financial systems, track budgets, and provide insights that guide decision-making. Your role will involve evaluating contractor claims, handling contract variations, and generating detailed financial reports that help shape our cost models and project forecasts.

In addition to maintaining accuracy and compliance across all financial aspects of the portfolio, you’ll collaborate with the Cost Intelligence Team to drive process improvements and refine cost models, enhancing SA Water's ability to manage project costs effectively. You’ll also manage change control processes, ensuring that project budgets and timelines stay aligned with approved scopes of work.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up and managing projects and programs in our financial systems to ensure accurate cost tracking and capitalisation.
  • Providing key support in forecasting project costs, managing contractor claims, and administering contract variations.
  • Generating accrual journals and assisting in cost analysis alongside the Cost Intelligence Team to improve cost models and future estimates.
  • Maintaining change control processes to ensure alignment of cost and schedule forecasts with the approved project scope.
  • Creating and delivering timely and accurate reports to inform decision-making and support compliance with governance standards.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • A relevant qualification in Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong applied business analysis skills in a multi-project environment.
  • High-level proficiency in MS Office and reporting tools.
  • The ability to work independently, communicate with influence, and effectively implement process improvements.
  • Proven experience in one or more areas of cost control, project or business management, and scheduling.
