Behind this essential service are people who care. From engineering and science to construction, digital, operations and customer experience, every role plays a part. We bring our authentic selves to work, driven by purpose, supporting one another to deliver work that truly matters.

About the job

Working closely with the Senior Manager Government Relations, you will play a key role in supporting SA Water’s strategic priorities through the delivery of high-quality Cabinet submissions, Ministerial briefs, Parliamentary materials and government relations advice. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will partner with senior leaders to navigate complex issues, build trusted stakeholder relationships and help drive outcomes for the business.

This opportunity is ideal for a senior government relations professional with strong Cabinet experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can confidently manage competing priorities and provides sound advice under pressure.

About the Person

The ideal candidate is a trusted adviser with strong experience working within, or closely alongside, government. You understand the nuances of Ministerial, Parliamentary and Cabinet processes, and can confidently provide guidance to senior leaders on complex and sensitive matters.

You bring excellent judgement, a calm and professional approach under pressure, and the ability to operate independently with limited direction. Comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, you can quickly synthesise information, identify risks and opportunities, and deliver clear, strategic advice.

Most importantly, you will have demonstrated experience preparing high-quality Cabinet submissions and navigating government decision-making processes, making you a credible and valued partner across the organisation.

About Policy and Corporate Services

The team’s work is fast-paced and responsive to government priorities, evolving legislation and ministerial needs. You’ll be part of a team that adapts quickly, provides trusted advice, and ensures SA Water operates with confidence in a complex operating environment.

Working with Policy and Corporate Services means contributing to meaningful, high-impact work behind the scenes, helping keep essential water and wastewater services running while influencing decisions that matter for communities across South Australia.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Lead the development of complex Ministerial briefs, Cabinet submissions, correspondence and Parliamentary materials.
  • Provide expert advice on Ministerial, Cabinet and Parliamentary processes and protocols.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Ministerial offices, government agencies and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the delivery of government-facing requests and activities, ensuring quality outcomes within tight timeframes.
  • Support senior leaders with strategic advice on government engagement, emerging issues and stakeholder management.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, communications, law, business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing high-quality Ministerial, Cabinet and Parliamentary submissions, with a strong understanding of government processes and protocols.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes with senior stakeholders, including government representatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and provide practical, strategic advice.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailoring messaging for diverse audiences and sensitive environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure; experience in policy development, government engagement strategies or regulated environments will be highly regarded.
