About the job  

In this role you will be bring a specialist blend of technical expertise in wastewater treatment and interpersonal skills to the table. The purpose of this position is to lead operational input to regulatory business planning, strategic wastewater treatment initiatives, capital projects, business development and research and innovation to proactively support the delivery of safe wastewater and recycled water services for the community. This is an ongoing full time opportunity, open to other locations within SA. 

About the Person

An ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge and capabilities in wastewater treatment, as well as a strategic and outcome focussed approach. 

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. 

Additional requirements are:

  • Lead pilot studies and trials of new emerging technologies and operational techniques, including theoretical improvement concepts, to improve wastewater treatment operations and performance.
  • Identify operational efficiency opportunities to deliver budget savings (technical input into budget forecasts) and make recommendations to the management team.
  • Provide specialist wastewater treatment operational input into capital projects to ensure all operational risks and opportunities are considered through concept design, detailed design, tender evaluation and delivery phases of project delivery. 
  • Provide operational technical input into new business development initiatives (including operation of newly acquired assets)
  • Respond as part of a team to treatment failures and incidents.
  • Establish and maintain respected and valued partnerships with key stakeholders across SA Water, acting as the key interface for the team.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Qualification in Engineering or Science or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in wastewater treatment plant operations
  • Ability to analyse complex technical operational problems and determine appropriate solutions working under limited supervision
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
