About the job  

This role is based in Port Lincoln however it will be expected for the successful applicant to be working across the whole of the Eyre Peninsula from Ceduna through to Whyalla overseeing the delivery of safe drinking water to our customers in line with customer expectations, leading initiative to improve operational water quality performance.

A very important part of the role will be managing water quality incidents relating to people’s health in accordance with the Incident Management Protocol and ensuring all water quality targets are met with minimal customer impacts.

Involvement in capital water infrastructure upgrades to ensure this apply to the water quality standards. You will provide technical input to any investigation, engage with stakeholders as well as working closely with the field operations team maintaining safe water supply to the Eyre community.

About Operations and Maintenance 

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include: 

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. 

You will: 

  • Support and assist other Water Quality Coordinators and the Field Water Quality Lead as required to ensure statewide water quality matters are addressed
  • There is an expectation of regular regional travel working closely with field operational staff and management on water quality matters
  • Performance data collected and appropriate level of interpretation and regularly reported to Operations.
  • Conduct annual review of water quality performance and operating targets.
  • Working with Field Operations, Treatment operations and Maintenance teams, troubleshoot water quality issues to maintain safe and compliant water quality to SA Water customers.
  • Support is provided for the review and management of HS, WQ and Environmental risks.
  • Improvement initiatives, research, and capital investment.
  • Assist with field training of treatment operators/maintenance/field services staff in laboratory and field analysis and sampling techniques.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a Science or Engineering based discipline or demonstrated experience.
  • Sound technical knowledge of and experience of source water, water treatment and quality processes, sampling techniques and water laboratory analysis (Highly desirable)
  • Ability to interpret analytical and other data to inform corrective actions and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills and abilities.
  • High degree of computer literacy
