About the job  

As a Commercial Manager, you will oversee contract management and develop procurement strategies alongside our procurement team for a billion-dollar capital investment.

This role leads commercial and contract management functions that underpin major infrastructure delivery, driving commercial best practice, risk management, and value-for-money outcomes. You’ll mentor and guide your project team, use our procurement and contract frameworks to foster strong partnerships with delivery partners to achieve program success.

You are a commercially astute leader who brings extensive experience in contract and procurement management within large infrastructure or construction environments. With a sharp eye for risk, value and performance, you thrive in complex stakeholder settings and are skilled at translating commercial frameworks into tangible outcomes.

About Sustainable Infrastructure

The Sustainable Infrastructure group is dedicated to maximising value for customers and the community by developing innovative and optimised infrastructure plans, and overseeing the planning, construction, delivery, and maintenance of water and sewerage assets across the state and business.

In addition, your responsibilities will include: 

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. 

You will: 

  • Lead and develop cross functional project teams to strengthen commercial capability across various capital delivery programs and projects.
  • Oversee and champion the use of standardised commercial and procurement strategies that ensure optimal business outcomes and alignment with SA Water frameworks.
  • Apply sound commercial assurance practices and manage the full contract lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, assess variations, and contribute to the risk and opportunity management processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, internal stakeholders, and partner organisations.
  • Contribute to performance management of SA Water’s delivery partners and advocate for innovation and efficiency in project delivery. 

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Experience leading commercial teams managing $100M+ contracts within the Australian commercial landscape.
  • Strong negotiation, risk management and procurement expertise.
  • Ability to ensure compliance and contract performance.
  • Strategic thinking and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency in contract management and procurement systems.
  • Experience with Australian general industry contracting models preferred (i.e. AS4300/NEC4, GC21).
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
