About the job  

We are seeking a seasoned Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EI&C) professional to join our team as a technical authority within the Corporation. In this role, you will provide expert support to the Electrical Engineering Studies team, delivering high-level technical investigations, design solutions, audits, and advisory services. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with electrical standards and optimizing infrastructure performance across all operational areas.

About the Person

You’re a highly experienced Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls professional with a passion for technical excellence and continuous improvement. You thrive in complex environments, bringing deep expertise in electrical standards, infrastructure, and compliance. Known for your analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, you’re confident leading investigations, audits, and design initiatives that drive operational performance and safety. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Deliver Engineering Design Excellence by providing specialist electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering design and technical auditing for SA Water projects, ensuring alignment with time, budget, and safety requirements.
  • Champion Safety in Design (SiD) by coordinating Safety in Design processes across multidisciplinary teams to ensure health and safety risks are eliminated or minimised throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Drive Customer-Focused Solutions with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely, cost-effective engineering solutions that meet customer expectations and operational needs.
  • Support Technical Governance by contribute to the development, review, and implementation of SA Water’s technical standards and guidelines, ensuring compliance and promoting best-for-business outcomes.
  • Foster Innovation and Continuous Improvement recommending emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance SA Water’s engineering capabilities and technical standards.
  • Promote a Collaborative and High-Performance Culture working effectively within and across teams, actively participating in meetings, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder engagement to support a culture of service excellence and technical leadership.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation and/or Controls Engineering
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation or eligibility to obtain CPEng through Engineers Australia by 30 June 2026.
  • Proven ability to operate as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls.  
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering procedures and practices relevant to the water industry and large engineering organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex and critical engineering investigations and designs within the Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls discipline.  
  • Experience in the development and review of technical and infrastructure standards.
  • Familiarity with Powercad software. Familiarity with SKM power tools will be advantageous.
