About the role

Contribute to the achievement of River Murray Operations performance targets by carrying out safe and effective maintenance, chemical dosing and operational activities to enable optimum operational efficiency of the Salt Interception Schemes under SA Water’s control on behalf of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.

Your responsibilities for this opportunity:

  • Carry out routine and breakdown maintenance of saline water collection and disposal pipelines including repairs as required and valve exercising, pigging of pipelines and headworks and the operation of pumping plant according to schedules.
  • Monitor and maintain piezometers, carry out water sampling, testing and recording of results.
  • Participate in ensuring chemical dosing is conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with regulations including assisting with the development and regular updating of standard operating procedures.
  • Improve pumping efficiency by chemical dosing the bore casings according to preventative maintenance schedules and dosing rates.
  • Contribute to keeping the Salt Interception Schemes basins and surrounds of bores safe, clean, tidy and a pleasant environment.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • This role will suit someone who values the work life balance and enjoys working along the River Murray. Safety conscious with a can-do attitude and open to learning is what we are looking for. You will have the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal
  • Hold a valid Class C Drivers Licence
  • MR Drivers Licence, Dogging, Crane Vehicle Operators Licence (highly desirable)
  • Certificate 3 in Water Operations, or willingness to complete (we will train you)
  • White Card
  • Carriage of dangerous goods license (highly regarded)
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety, Water Quality and Environmental procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), and undertake basic calculations
  • Understanding and use of modern computer programs and SA Water attendance and reporting systems

Typical work hours are from 7am to 3:30pm and in the warmer months it may change to 6:30am to 3pm. Depending on skills and qualifications the salary commences at $59,205.01 per annum.
