About the role

The Finance Officer plays a key role in delivering accurate, timely, and efficient financial services to Growth business unit within SA Water. Working closely with finance teams and stakeholders, the role is responsible for managing month-end processes, maintaining the integrity of financial data, preparing labour and FTE reports, and supporting budgeting and analysis activities. With a strong focus on service excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, the Finance Officer helps ensure financial processes meet governance standards and contribute to informed decision-making across the organisation. This is a maximum term opportunity to July 2026.

About the person

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and proactive professional with a strong foundation in financial processes and a commitment to service excellence. They bring experience in analysing transactional data, preparing reports, and supporting budgeting activities, along with effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams. With a background in accounting, commerce, or economics and ideally progressing toward CPA or CA accreditation they are confident working independently, solving problems, and contributing to continuous improvement. Their approach is grounded, reliable, and aligned with SA Water’s values of impact, integrity, and future focus.

About Business Insights and Excellence

The Business Insights and Excellence group drives operational excellence by enabling best business practices, economic pricing, financial management, supply chain management, and Risk Governance & Assurance to support the broader business and partners in delivering reliable, cost-effective, sustainable, and future-focused outcomes.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Lead and manage month-end transactional cycles including journals, accruals, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Investigate and resolve financial discrepancies, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Collaborate with finance teams and business units to deliver high-quality financial support.
  • Prepare labour and FTE reporting, contractor schedules, and forecasting files.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by evaluating and documenting finance processes.
  • Build strong relationships and represent Finance in delivering service excellence.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Accounting, Economics or related discipline (CPA/CA desirable)
  • Experience analysing transactional data and making recommendations to decision-makers.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Advanced Excel and familiarity with financial systems.
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with a focus on accuracy and service.
