About the job  

SA Water is seeking two skilled Asset Management Specialist to lead the development and implementation of Asset Approaches and Asset Management Plans for our water assets within the Growth group. This critical role ensures that our infrastructure delivers agreed levels of service while optimising risk, performance, and life-cycle costs—all with a strong focus on customer-centric outcomes.

About the Person

You are a strategic thinker with a passion for delivering reliable water services to the community. You thrive in complex environments and can balance risk, cost, and performance to achieve sustainable outcomes. Your ability to engage stakeholders, interpret data, and make informed decisions under uncertainty sets you apart. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with WHS responsibilities and promote a culture of safety and wellbeing across all asset management activities.
  • Create and maintain Asset Management Approaches aligned with corporate strategy, customer needs, and future service requirements.
  • Appraise options, apply whole-life costing principles, and develop integrated Asset Management Plans that balance cost, risk, and performance.
  • Oversee the implementation of plans through operation, maintenance, optimisation, and rationalisation of water assets to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with water assets, ensuring decisions are risk-based and customer-focused.
  • Define data requirements, analyse asset performance, and provide insights to support decision-making and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, evaluate effectiveness of approaches, and lead initiatives for ongoing improvement in asset management practices.

Skills and experience

  • Qualifications in Engineering, Science, Asset Management, or a trade-based discipline.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess, evaluate, and develop innovative solutions for complex challenges.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences.
  • Extensive knowledge of water or wastewater infrastructure assets, including maintenance and operational activities.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage ambiguity, drive innovation, and make clear, decisive decisions to achieve successful outcomes.
