About the Company

SA Water is a successful, modern water utility wholly owned by the Government of South Australia. We employ more than 1,700 people across a broad range of disciplines who operate more than $14 billion worth of infrastructure to deliver essential water and sewerage services to more than 1.8 million South Australians.

We operate in a geographically and climatically diverse service area, with sites and locations from Ceduna through to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, across to the Riverland, down to Mount Gambier, and most places in between.

Our strength and expertise have been shaped by our history. For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

As well as safely delivering smart and reliable services for our customers of today, we innovate to shape the water solutions of the future that will support thriving economies and healthy communities.

We are driven by our values; we value our people, we do work that matters, we keep it real, we know that our work has impact and we are future focussed. Staying true to our values ensures that we consistently deliver positive outcomes for all South Australians.

About the role

SA Water is looking for an experienced Senior Management Accountant to join our Business Insights and Excellence Corporate Finance team. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing the monthly reporting process, preparing reports for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board, and ensuring our financial reporting aligns with statutory and regulatory requirements. You will also contribute to the preparation of our annual financial statements and regulatory reports and play a crucial role in monthly forecasting and both short-term and long-term budgeting processes.

You will be an essential partner to the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team and business units, helping to inform decision-making with financial insights and analysis. As a Senior Management Accountant, you’ll have the opportunity to drive continuous improvement initiatives and enhance the effectiveness of financial management across SA Water.

About you

You are a proactive, analytical thinker with strong stakeholder engagement skills and a passion for using financial insights to support decision making. You bring a balance of technical expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to work independently in a fast paced, purpose driven environment.

About Business Insights and Excellence

The Business Insights and Excellence group drives operational excellence by enabling best business practices, economic pricing, financial management, supply chain management, and Risk Governance & Assurance to support the broader business and partners in delivering reliable, cost-effective, sustainable, and future-focused outcomes.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Oversee the monthly reporting process, ensuring compliance with SA Treasury instructions, Australian Accounting Standards, and other regulatory requirements. Prepare detailed management reports for the ELT and Board, providing valuable financial insights and analysis on trends and key drivers.
  • Collaborate with the FP&A team to support the creation and review of corporate management reporting and budgeting requirements. Contribute to the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with long-term financial goals and providing analytical insights into emerging issues that may impact financial outcomes.
  • Work closely with business units and management to ensure the integrity of financial information. Provide financial guidance and commercial advice to support business performance and decision making. Enhance awareness of financial performance issues within the ELT and other business units.
  • Lead process improvements within financial reporting, budgeting, and systems. Use your expertise to implement solutions that drive efficiency and strengthen financial management across SA Water.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance, Accounting, or an equivalent discipline.
  • CPA/CA qualification with active professional membership.
  • Proven experience in management accounting, forecasting, and Board/ELT reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial Excel modelling, strong relationship management, and excellent communication (written, verbal, and visual) skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and drive continuous improvement.
