Are you a highly skilled Hydraulic Modelling Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity? We are seeking two talented individuals to join our Systems Planning Wastewater team under the Growth Group at SA Water.

About the Role:

As a Hydraulic Modelling Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting and managing wastewater and recycled water planning initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to both short- and long-term strategic planning.
  • Hydraulic Modelling: Perform advanced hydraulic modelling and network investigations.
  • Sustainable Development: Ensure the sustainable development and reliability of our wastewater and recycled water systems.

About SA Water’s Growth Group:

The Growth Group is a newly formed entity with single-point accountability for growth. This group drives 'best for growth' decisions, promotes business consistency, and enhances efficiency by connecting business units and reducing handover complexities.

Your Systems Planning Wastewater role, which is within the Growth Group’s Integrated Growth Planning Team, is to support sewerage and recycled water decisions by:

  • Maintaining Hydraulic Reliability: Develop innovative and optimised infrastructure plans.
  • Provision of network investigation advice:
    • Supporting customer growth inquires by conducting technical assessments of our existing sewerage and recycled water networks to support customer growth inquiries.
    • Responding to business queries by addressing business queries regarding the performance of existing network wastewater and recycled water assets.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Support the planning and strategic direction for wastewater and recycled water systems.
  • Use hydraulic modelling to identify opportunities and constraints within sewer and recycled water networks, supporting sustainable growth.
  • Develop, maintain, and refresh system models for sewer and recycled water networks using software applications Innovyze ICM for wastewater modelling and WaterGEMS\WaterCAD for recycled water modelling.
  • Provide timely, expert advice to the business on land development inquiries, ensuring network performance and service requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure plans and frameworks for future infrastructure satisfy current and future needs.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, adopting new techniques in planning and modelling.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or substantial system planning experience that demonstrates equivalent competence.
  • Expertise in wastewater and recycled water systems, including detailed investigation, design, and planning.
  • Proven experience in hydraulic and hydrological engineering, sewer and recycled water modelling, GIS, and data analytics platforms (e.g., SCADA).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities in wastewater and recycled water systems planning, with an understanding of Integrated Water Management and Adaptive Planning principles.
  • A collaborative mindset, with a focus on achieving team goals and building strong relationships across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Experience using software applications Innovyze ICM for wastewater modelling and Water CAD for recycled water modelling would be highly advantageous
  • Postgraduate qualifications or recognition of discipline expertise by Engineers Australia (Desirable)
