About the job

We’re offering five exciting opportunities for experienced Water Treatment Operators to join our team and help run water treatment plants across South Australia. These roles are critical to the day-to-day operation of plants, ensuring our drinking water meets strict quality standards. Work locations include Berri, Morgan, Murray Bridge, and Myponga. As a Water Treatment Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimising treatment processes to deliver safe, clean drinking water to our communities.

About the Person

Our ideal candidate will have had previous experience working within a team environment, have the ability to meet deadlines and operational targets whilst working under limited supervision, and be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.  The position requires strong analytical skills, and you will have the ability to identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures on an ongoing basis.

Ideally you will have a trade-level qualification.  Prior experience in either water or wastewater processes as well as the maintenance and calibration of chemical dosing systems would be beneficial but not essential.

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they possess strong PC skills and an above-average level of competency with the Microsoft Office suite of tools.  Ideally, you will also have experience with, and be competent in, the use of SCADA systems.

You should have a willingness to work remotely and must be prepared to undertake intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home on a rostered basis.  The successful candidate must be willing to travel in 4WD vehicles and either fixed or rotary winged aircraft.

About Operations and Maintenance 

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • The safe & efficient operation of our regional water treatment plants to ensure compliance with drinking water quality guidelines and SA Water procedures.
  • Routine plant maintenance & inspections (repair/service/calibration of plant equipment).
  • Input into the development and improvement of operational procedures & methods.
  • Assisting with the ongoing optimisation of water treatment processes.
  • Effective collaboration to ensure team goals are achieved.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong computer skills and software knowledge including Microsoft office.
  • Trade Qualifications (mechanical/electrical). (Desirable)
  • Water Treatment Plant Operators Certificate III (Water industry operator/Water Treatment) or demonstrated operational knowledge of water treatment processes and/or basic laboratory skills. (Desirable)
  • Ability to work under limited direction.
  • Experience in the use of SCADA systems. (Desirable)
  • Hold a valid driver’s license. (Essential)
