About the job

As the Water Treatment Coordinator, you will play a key leadership role based out of Murray Bridge, overseeing the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of multiple water treatment plants including Murray Bridge, Mt Pleasant, Kanmantoo, Palmer, Mypolonga, Cowirra, Mannum and Tailem Bend. You will lead a diverse team responsible for delivering reliable water services that meet quality, safety, and environmental standards. Collaboration with stakeholders to achieve business goals and support continuous improvement initiatives will be essential. You will also oversee asset maintenance planning and programming to maintain water quality and operational productivity within budget.

Travel across these sites will be a regular part of your role to provide hands-on leadership and ensure consistent, high standards of service delivery across all locations.

About Operations and Maintenance 

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team by fostering strong relationships, providing feedback, and supporting growth.
  • Manage people processes including recruitment, induction, performance evaluation, and recognition.
  • Promote a collaborative team environment to enhance decision-making and commitment.
  • Coordinate resources and rosters to meet operational demands effectively.
  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with WHS policies and promoting wellbeing.
  • Ensure water treatment operations comply with all regulatory, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Develop, implement, and review operational procedures and asset maintenance strategies for water treatment plants.
  • Monitor plant operations and maintenance, managing budgets and reporting accurately within set timeframes.
  • Drive performance improvements by identifying asset upgrade needs and supporting capital projects.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to implement new technologies and innovations that improve water quality and operational efficiency.

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire teams.
  • Proven experience managing change and driving continuous improvement.
  • Strong ability to analyse complex technical and operational problems independently.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate operations and maintenance activities using internal and external resources (essential).
  • Certificate III in Water Operations or Water Treatment (desirable).
  • Trade qualifications in mechanical or electrical fields, or post-trade qualifications related to treatment plant operations (desirable).
  • Relevant technical or tertiary qualifications in Science, Engineering or Business (desirable).
