About the job

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving sustainability and providing technical expertise and support to our engineering team. About Sustainable Infrastructure

The Sustainable Infrastructure group is dedicated to maximising value for customers and the community by developing innovative and optimised infrastructure plans, and overseeing the planning, construction, delivery, and maintenance of water and sewerage assets across the state and business.

In addition, your responsibilities will include: 

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day. 

You will: 

  • Provide expert support in Structural design/technical engineering matters across the business with a focus on sustainable outcomes
  • Conduct specialist investigation, scoping, and design for SA Water projects within time and budget constraints
  • Collaborate with the Principal Engineer to enhance team capabilities and drive value-added initiatives that meet customer needs
  • Collaborate within the structural discipline engineering team and with other technical disciplines and business partners
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, driving innovation and best practice improvements in Structural engineering standards and practices.
  • Attend emergency callouts and provide timely structural engineering advice to support safe and effective incident response, asset recovery, and operational continuity.  Assess structural risks, recommend appropriate mitigation measures
  • Advocate for SA Water's technical standards and guidelines in structural discipline components
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers to build their technical knowledge, enabling them to take on increasing levels of responsibility and contribute effectively to project outcomes

Your success in this role will come from: 

  • Tertiary engineering qualifications in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Post graduate qualifications and affiliation and recognition of discipline expertise by Engineers Australia (Desirable)
  • Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia (EA) or in the process of obtaining chartership with EA.
  • Knowledge of Australian design codes and standards (Desirable)
  • Extensive experience with structural analysis software and design tools
  • Detailed knowledge of Structural engineering procedures and practices as applied to the water industry and large engineering organisations and leading expert function as SME (Desirable)
  • Experience in the provision of investigation, options, concept and detailed design of Structural discipline installations associated with the water industry at a high professional level and auditing of designs prepared by other (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in the execution of novel, complex and critical engineering investigations and designs in Structural discipline engineering (Desirable)
