For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

About the job

In this role, you’ll develop and refine asset management strategies and detailed lifecycle plans for SA Water’s wastewater and recycled water infrastructure. You will provide technical guidance to teams implementing these plans, ensuring assets meet defined levels of service while optimising risk, performance, reliability and whole‑of‑life cost. Your work will support network growth, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure the long‑term integrity and resilience of critical assets across the system.

About the Person

You’re a technically strong asset management professional who understands the complexities of wastewater and recycled water infrastructure. You work well with others, providing clear guidance and technical insight to help teams deliver reliable, compliant and cost‑effective asset outcomes. Analytical, collaborative and solutions‑focused, you balance risk, performance and lifecycle considerations to support sustainable services for customers and communities.

Additional responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of asset management plans for wastewater and recycled water assets, including serviceability assessments, risk evaluation and lifecycle optimisation.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance by analysing asset performance, conducting root‑cause investigations, interpreting data and identifying opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Prioritise and justify capital investment decisions, developing options, evaluating whole‑of‑life costs, preparing project briefs and supporting the creation of long‑term asset strategies.
  • Act as project sponsor for multiple capital projects, ensuring strong governance, clear line‑of‑sight to business outcomes and effective translation of investment need into deliverable project scopes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across SA Water, maintaining strong partnerships with Operations, Maintenance, Delivery and Asset Information teams to ensure alignment, compliance and effective plan implementation.
  • Monitor and report on performance, overseeing project budgets, assessing project outputs, coordinating analytics, and ensuring capital delivery contributes to broader asset management outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation, enhancing asset planning processes, improving data quality and sourcing, and challenging technical solutions to deliver best‑value outcomes for customers and the business.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Qualifications in Engineering, Science, Asset Management or a trade‑based discipline.
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making capability, with the ability to align actions to strategic objectives and develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to lead within a team environment or work autonomously, supported by strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound understanding of asset management principles and their practical application.
  • Experience working within an engineering or technical operating environment.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater operations and maintenance.
