About the Company

SA Water is a successful, modern water utility wholly owned by the Government of South Australia. We employ more than 1,700 people across a broad range of disciplines who operate more than $14 billion worth of infrastructure to deliver essential water and sewerage services to more than 1.8 million South Australians.

We operate in a geographically and climatically diverse service area, with sites and locations from Ceduna through to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, across to the Riverland, down to Mount Gambier, and most places in between.

Our strength and expertise have been shaped by our history. For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

As well as safely delivering smart and reliable services for our customers of today, we innovate to shape the water solutions of the future that will support thriving economies and healthy communities.

We are driven by our values; we value our people, we do work that matters, we keep it real, we know that our work has impact and we are future focussed. Staying true to our values ensures that we consistently deliver positive outcomes for all South Australians.

About the job

As the Training Compliance Specialist, you will own and maintain SA Water’s training compliance and competency assurance framework and act as the key point of contact for training compliance matters. You will provide clear visibility of compliance performance, and work closely with teams across the business to clearly define, monitor and report on regulatory, critical and compulsory training requirements.

A core part of the role is connecting the dots between legislation, training frameworks, systems and real‑world work – translating requirements into something practical, understood and applied in operational and field-based environments. You will help the business to embed ownership of training compliance, providing advice, challenge and support where needed. This is not a transactional role; it requires someone who can interpret requirements, identify issues early, and influence action to manage risk and improve outcomes.

About the Person

The ideal candidate brings experience working in complex, operational environments and are confident navigating data, ambiguity and competing priorities. You apply a practical, structured approach to operationalising business requirements into clear, workable training obligations.

You are a strong communicator who can engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, helping the business to understand what compliance means in practice and driving ownership of outcomes.

You build trusted relationships and are comfortable providing advice, challenge and direction where required.

You are organised, detail-focused and proactive, with the ability to identify issues early, assess risk and take appropriate action.

You bring the judgement and credibility to provide clear, practical advice and support the business in managing compliance and meeting its obligations.

About People and Safety

The People and Safety group are focused on ensuring workforce well-being and success through strategies such as talent attraction, diversity, and collaboration, while also prioritising health and safety efforts to prevent harm and promote overall well-being and career development.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Own and maintain SA Water’s training compliance framework and governance.
  • Interpret legislative and regulatory changes and translate them into updated training requirements and packages.
  • Monitor training compliance, identify risks and gaps, and provide clear, actionable insights.
  • Lead and deliver meaningful compliance reporting (Power BI outputs and Excel analysis).
  • Support audit readiness and manage audit findings through to closure.
  • Build strong relationships with operational leaders and support accountability for compliance outcomes.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Proven ability to own, develop and maintain training compliance frameworks within a regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory, legislative and organisational compliance requirements, and ability to translate these into practical training outcomes.
  • Highly effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence, advise and build trusted relationships.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting capability, producing clear, accurate insights to support decision‑making.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify compliance risks, gaps and non‑conformance, and support effective mitigation, remediation and audit activities.
  • Well‑developed planning, judgement and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and take initiative.
  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is desirable, but not essential.
