We employ more than 1,700 people across a broad range of disciplines who operate more than $14 billion worth of infrastructure to deliver essential water and sewerage services to more than 1.8 million South Australians.

We operate in a geographically and climatically diverse service area, with sites and locations from Ceduna through to Port Augusta, the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, across to the Riverland, down to Mount Gambier, and most places in between.

Our strength and expertise have been shaped by our history. For more than 165 years, South Australians have depended on us to innovate and deliver efficient and sustainable water services. With nationally and internationally recognised industry expertise, we’re focused on understanding and meeting our customers’ expectations.

About the job

We’re looking for a dedicated Construction Technical Officer to support the safe and efficient delivery of water, wastewater and recycled water infrastructure across South Australia. In this hands‑on role, you’ll ensure construction works meet required technical standards, support contractor performance, and help deliver quality outcomes for customers, communities and the environment.

About the Person

If you’re passionate about construction, safety, technical standards and continuous improvement—who enjoys working on‑site, solving problems, and making a positive impact on essential infrastructure.

Additional Key Responsibilities are:

  • Implement direction from your leader, complete allocated tasks, and collaborate effectively to contribute to team goals and a culture of service excellence.
  • Champion Safety by upholding WHS responsibilities, follow safe work practices, and take personal accountability for your own and others’ safety, including fitness for work.
  • Ensure Technical and Regulatory Compliance by verifying that construction, design and completion activities meet SA Water Technical Standards, WSAA Codes, and other relevant industry regulations.
  • Attend contractor and consultant site meetings, address emerging construction issues, and represent SA Water’s interests throughout delivery.
  • Inspect works, assess contractor performance, verify As Constructed data, and provide documentation and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular progress updates, maintain schedules/trackers, and assist in assessing and quantifying site variations to support claims and delivery forecasting.
  • Provide technical guidance on water/wastewater design processes, contribute to improvements to Technical Standards, support product evaluations, deliver training, and uphold SA Water’s policies and cultural expectations.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction WHS requirements, industry standards and quality assurance practices.
  • Strong technical understanding of water, wastewater and recycled water infrastructure across the full asset lifecycle.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex construction drawings, including BYDA plans.
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders and customers to manage differing expectations.
  • Sound knowledge of approved materials, fittings and equipment used in water and wastewater construction.
  • Experience contributing to process improvements, construction delivery, commissioning or quality assurance.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering/Construction (or equivalent experience) and confidence using document management systems such as SharePoint, Aconex, InEight, TeamBinder or Meridian/Lunr.
